Introducing our DDC People

I am delighted to report that we have appointed a third Deputy District Commissioner onto the district senior leadership team. John Handford, who is currently GSL at 1st Chineham will become our strategic leader for People. There will be many different tasks that John will be leading on including: recruitment of manager and supporters across the district including GSLs, working alongside GSLs/DGSLs to grow and develop scouting further, implementing the new changes (once agreed by HQ) to the volunteer journey and experience as well as taking the lead on adult appointment reviews alongside out appointments team. John will continue with his GSL role at 1st Chineham but will step back from his District Appointments Advisory Committee role.

Hi Everyone

My journey in Scouting started as a Cub and a Scout – as an adult I’ve greatly enjoyed roles in Beavers, the District Appointments Committee, and as a Group Scout Leader.  I’m very passionate about inclusion and engagement for everyone in Scouting.  I love the outdoors – I snowboard, surf, sail, cycle, dive, and teach climbing and Karate.    Professionally, I hold a Global leadership role in a large pharmaceutical Company – I’ve had the privilege of leading geographically distributed teams and helping to develop people over many years.

I’m really looking forward to continuing my Scouting journey as part of the District and partnering with all of you.
