Introducing Basingstoke East Young Leader Unit

Over the years within Basingstoke East there has been a disconnect between the Young Leaders and the wider Scouting leadership community. We feel that many of you are doing fantastic work but not being supported or recognised accordingly by your sections or by District. The aim of the YL scheme is to engage and enthuse the next generation of leaders- You guys!

This is a new venture opened to all young leaders, we actively encourage you to attend as it will be a place to complete your training, sign off on missions, swap skills, learn some games and help shape the future of Scouting in Basingstoke.  Regardless of where you are in your YL journey, just starting or just finishing all the training or none of it done there is something for you here. (we have biscuits!)

The District is growing and it is increasingly difficult for me to get round and visit you all regularly enough to give you all the time and attention you deserve throughout your time as a YL. It’s also not ideal to meet with you on nights when you are at your sections as you’re there to lead not chat to me!

Each session will have a rough agenda, but they will always be different, they will be adapted to what you guys need and want. The days will be free of charge, snacks provided but please bring your lunch (NO nuts please as there is a known allergy) and a drink with you. All dates will be added to OSM as a reminder.

Dates of meetings are:

• Sunday 4^th September
• Saturday 1^st October
• Saturday 19^th November
• Saturday 17^th December

Group Scout Leaders, Scout Leaders, Cub Leaders, Beaver Leaders, please encourage your Young Leaders to attend, I believe the YL’s have completed more of the training and the missions than they have been recognised for and this needs to be fixed!
