Expanding our Shop operations

6 September 2023

Basingstoke Scout Shop is a real asset to us as profit from the shop is returned directly into Scouting within Basingstoke Since January 2023, when we launched our online Scout Shop we have continued to grow and we are now expanding further.

Our online operations are moving to the District Hub. All orders for delivery will be fulfilled from our hub, with the shop in Base 2000 continuing to serve people face to face and fulfilling click and collect orders.

In order for us to make this a real success we are looking for more volunteers to help us deliver and we have a number of positions available. All of these can be completed alongside other Scouting roles or totally independently. As a thank you for the commitment our shop volunteers get a generous discount on selected items from Basingstoke Scout Shop.

Despatcher

You will be able to commit to visit the hub once a fortnight to pick and pack orders, then dispatch via local parcel shops. There will be a rota system in place so you can select the day that is convenient to you. We expect the time commitment to be around an hour per fortnight and can be done alongside other Scout roles. Full training for this role will be given. The role is an Active support member role, so in most cases no additional training modules are required.

Coordinator

The role will be looking after the rota for our dispatch volunteers, monitoring and ordering stock for the hub and maintaining the general admin of the online side of the shop. You will need to be IT literate as there is a number of systems to use, but full training will be given. We expect the time commitment to be around an 1 to 2 hours per fortnight and can be done alongside other Scout roles. The role is an Active support coordinator role, so in most cases no additional training modules are required.

Sales Volunteer

Our Scout Shop based in Base 2000 has an opportunity for a new regular volunteer. We are looking for someone who is able to commit to the second Saturday of each month between 10am-12pm. You’ll have great customer service and enjoy interacting with people. The role is an Active support member role, so in most cases no additional training modules are required.

If you are interested in any of these roles, please get in touch with Paul/Jack at dc@bescouts.org.uk
