Around the World in 120 Minutes
1 April 2024
On Saturday, 24th February we were joined by over 130 Beaver Scouts as we took a journey around the world.
Armed with a passport each, the beavers travelled to five different countries conveniently located within easy travelling distance of each other via five bases set up in the Sports Hall at Everest Community Academy. At each destination, the Beavers learned a few facts about the Country and had to undertake a challenge that related to the Country they were visiting.
During the afternoon we took a trip to Kenya to try a game called Kudoda (like a traditional game of jacks). We also visited Japan to learn how to make an origami frog and travelled on to the USA, where Beavers needed to work in teams to try and cross the Grand Canyon using carpet tile stepping stones. The Beavers stopped in Australia to face a tricky little challenge where they attempted to identify 14 different animals that are native to Australia. The final country visited was France. As the Olympic Games are being hosted in Paris this year, the activity here was based on Olympic sports – Beavers were each given a card showing a picture of either an Olympic sport or a piece of equipment, their challenge was to find their partner by describing their picture.
This was a new event for the Beavers and based on the positive feedback received so far, we think we’ll be repeating this next year…only visiting some different Countries.
Thank you to all the leaders who gave up their time to enable the Beavers to attend this event – with particular thanks to those who (were) volunteered to run each of the bases. Without your ongoing support, these events would not be possible.
