District Hike 2025 (Cubs & Scouts)

We’re pleased to now be able to announce more information about this year’s District Hike taking place on Saturday 29th March 2025 which is once again open to Cubs and Scouts. 

This year we will be using similar hike routes to last year, however the Cubs and Scouts will be swapping starting points and routes this year. Cubs and Scouts will start at Base 2000 or 1st Chineham Scout Hut, with the other venue being the end location. Scouts will follow a slightly longer route, with the opposite start and end points. Exact locations and drop-off procedures will be shared shortly before the event. 

Cubs will be hiking in small groups – the suggested ratio is one adult per 8 cubs (please talk to us if you’re unable to get enough volunteers as we’ve got some spare!). 

Scouts will hike in small groups without leaders (but we do need volunteers!) – we’ll assign the groupings closer to the event and aim to have around 6 young people per team, keeping groups together, with some mixed groups depending on final numbers. 

The route is 8km for Cubs and 12km for Scouts in total, each group will have a tracker so the event team can keep an eye on progress and there will be several manned checkpoints. 

Following the improvements that we made last year, we will again be operating a live web page so parents can get a more accurate pick-up time.

Eligible sections will receive an invite via OSM which we ask you to publish to Cubs/Scouts. 

There is a small £4.00 charge per person to help cover the event running costs, this is being subsided by Basingstoke East Scouts. 

 So, what do YOU need to do right now? 

  • Log into OSM, accept the invite, and push it out to your Cubs/Scouts (don’t forget to add the payment if it’s not done already) 
  • Talk to your other leaders and see who’s available to volunteer on the day and let us know via the form above. 

 We’ll then be back in touch closer to the event with final joining information.
