Introducing our ADC Squirrels

10 August 2022

We are really excited to welcome Jan Wright into the role of Assistant District Commissioner for Squirrels. We’ve all seen the launches taking place across the country of Squirrel dreys and the time is almost here for Basingstoke East to open it’s first dreys.  Jan will be working closely with our G&D and Programme Teams as well as Group Scout Leaders to help establish these new dreys. This is a really exciting time for us as we look to offer our first provisioning for 4-6 year olds.

If you want to find out more about squirrels you can do so here. In the meantime please see a short intro from Jan below.

We are sure you’ll all give Jan a bit welcome to the team!

I’ve been a Cub Section Leader in Bramley for nearly 4 years, having moved to the village from west London. However, in a previous life, when my adult children were younger, both my husband and I were Leaders in Hammersmith, and my daughter having the claim to fame for being the first girl Cub in the Southeast.

Working mainly from home as a photographer and also director of the membership-based Data User Group allows me to pursue several volunteer roles both within scouting and the wider community, so amongst other things I currently run an information website for our village.

I am so excited to be on the ground floor as we start to build the new Squirrel section of Scouts, and all the opportunities that we will open up to this great age group. Although not blind to the challenges, engaging parents who are not only new to Scouting but to each other is also a prospect I’m looking forward to and I hope many long-term friendships both young and old will be forged in these early years.
