Membership Fee

29 September 2023

We are now in a position to confirm the total membership fee following the census on 31 January 2024.

The membership fee is made up of 3 portions: Headquarters, County and District. The entire fee will be billed to you by District and we then pass on the relevant amounts. As with previous years there is a 50p per youth member discount available for early payment.

Headquarters

This portion of the fee covers the essential running costs at a national level to support volunteers and young people, such as helping to cover increasing operating costs to manage safety and safeguarding. The fee also goes to support services such as programme, volunteer training and insurance for all members. You can view full details on how the fee is spent here.

This portion of the fee will be increased by £2 this year to £38 per youth member.

County

This portion of the fee covers the costs of running the county and provisions such as training and more local support. This portion of the fee has also increased this year by £1 to a charge of £17.50 per youth member.

District

This portion stays within Basingstoke East and covers the running costs of the district as well as things like top award costs for youth members. We understand that the cost of living is impacting so many of our members at this time and as a District we are perusing grants but also expanding our current assets such as badge sales and the Scout Shop to offset the increases in our own costs.

We are therefore pleased to confirm that the District portion of this fee will not increase this year and will remain at £11.50 per youth member.

Total Fee

This gives a total membership of £66.50 per youth member (assuming early payment). This amount will be invoiced to you following your census. We will confirm the date to be eligible for early payment closer to the time once we have been given the deadline from county.

We’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of the importance of collecting census data correctly as it is used at National, County and Local levels to help with support, strategy, grants and much more. It’s never too early to start collecting this data, so we would suggest that you make a start this month which puts you in a good position in the new year. The easiest way to do this, is via OSM. We have included a how to video on this  here.
