Welcome Sarah King
9 April 2024
Following on from our announcement of Dawn Spreadbury earlier this month, we’re excited to announce Sarah King will be joining 1st Basingstoke to make our first Team GVL in Basingstoke East.
We look forward to working with Sarah and Dawn over the coming years in their new roles of Team Group Lead Volunteer and them continuing to support all the leaders at 1st Basingstoke.
Please see a short introduction from Sarah below
Return to NewsI’m Sarah and I’m the Joint Lead Volunteer (Group Scout Leader) for 1st Basingstoke. I learnt a lot about Scouting after seeing some of my close friend’s children perform at the 2020 Basingstoke Gang Show. I am theatre mad obsessed, and I loved seeing these young people have fun on stage, making friends and doing what they loved. As a child I was a Brownie and then a Guide but Scouting was never really on my radar.
My daughter then joined Beavers right in the middle of the Covid Pandemic in 2021. The fact that she was able to get stuck into Scouting during a lockdown, be invested virtually, earn badges and even have a camp in her bedroom, made me realise right then just how brilliant Scouting was going to be for her to learn skills she might not get otherwise and since then she has thrown herself into everything Beavers and Cubs have had to offer. Including section, group, and district camps and of course Disney!
I work full time at Mars Wrigley based in Slough where I have been for almost 24 years. I am currently working in Marketing on the Seasons and Gifting portfolio which basically means I am talking about Christmas and Easter all year round. At Mars I am also a mental health champion and run courses on energy4life management for associates.
I joined the 1st Basingstoke trustee board in 2023 as a parent rep but having recently taken on the admin side of the Lead Volunteer role, I am already LOVING being able to give a little more and look forward to seeing 1st Basingstoke thrive in their new home.
