Hello from Team DC

31 July 2022

As you will have recently seen Jamie has stepped down as District Commissioner. His last day in the role was today and the baton has now been passed to us as your new acting Team DC. We would like to thank Jamie for everything he has given to Scouting and the positive impact he has had on many of us adult volunteers and our young people. We hope to see him in a Scouting role again very soon.

We have both been part of the senior leadership team for the past 18 months so many of you will already know who we are. However if we haven’t yet met there will plenty of opportunity over the coming months.

Off to a busy start, we will both be attending the district Summer Camp next week with over 60 young people from various groups across Basingstoke East, supported by 19 amazing volunteers.

To some, a team approach to District Commissioner maybe a new thing; but it simply means we’re sharing the role. You can reach out to either of us about things, however there are certain parts each of us will be responsible individually. Once we return from Summer Camp we’ll look to share our responsibilities in more detail with you.

We know that most of you are taking some well-earned rest from Scouting during these next few weeks, however if you do need anything please feel free to reach out. You can contact us via email using the dc@bescouts.org.uk address. As always if there is an emergency or safeguarding issue please do call on 07825 775348 (Paul) or 07783 639216 (Jack).

Senior Leadership Team

With a new Team DC, it means a slight change to the whole SLT and we are excited to share our team with you today.

John Handford is remaining with us as Deputy District Commissioner for People and Georgina Charlton is also continuing her role as Deputy District Commissioner for Growth & Development. Both John and Georgina have been a vital part of the SLT and we are really pleased to continue having them support us in our new role.

Craig Harris is joining us as Deputy District Commissioner for Programme. We are really excited Craig has agreed to join the team and look forward to working closely with him.

Jack Dilly is taking on the District Youth Commissioner role. He has done an amazing job as the Deputy DYC over the past 7 months and we can’t wait to see him continue to do so in his new role. Harrison Gorst who has been our DYC until now is joining Georgina’s team as ADC Growth & Development and will be crucial in supporting this area.

We are both excited to work with such a strong team and look forward to sharing more with you across the next month.

District Chair

Some of you may know that Matthew Scott also stepped down as District Chair as of today. We are pleased to announce that Pete Byrne has agreed to join us as Acting District Chair. Pete has a great deal of knowledge to bring to this role and we are excited to be working with him. There will be a full district AGM taking place on Thursday 29th September for which further details will follow in the coming weeks.

If you’re interested in finding out about opportunities on the district team and how you can get involved, please give us a shout.

This just leaves us to finish with, have a great Summer break, we are both looking forward to seeing you all very soon.

Paul Hogan-Williams & Jack Tracy

Acting Team DC
