1st Basingstoke Updates

1st Basingstoke are our oldest group in the District and have been based at Trinity Methodist Church for many many years. Sadly back in August last year the Church held it’s last meeting at Trinity and gave the group notice that they would be closing the building early this year. The Church have been really supportive of Scouting over the years, and the group & District both extend our gratitude to them.

As of today, 1st Basingstoke will now meet at United Reformed Church on London Street in the town centre. As many will be aware this is already the home of 8th Basingstoke (U.R.C). They will continue to meet there and are unimpacted by this move. 1st Basingstoke will be renting the premises and 8th Basingstoke continue to be affiliated with the Church itself.

One of the biggest struggles in finding a new home for the group was trying to keep meeting times the same. With 4 sections all meeting on the same day this proved to be a real challenge and we are pleased that with their new home in the United Reformed Church this has been possible.

One other point of note, the group name has changed to reflect that they are no longer affiliated with Trinity Methodist Church and will now be known as “1st Basingstoke Scout Group”.
